Purple Loosestrife - Lythrum salicaria 

If you live outside of the range map we have indicated for purple loosestrife, do not feel too safe---smaller populations of the plant have been found in each of the lower forty-eight states (except for Florida).

Purple Loosestrife is a pretty plant that was once used in horticulture. But soon its invasive nature emerged and it spread throughout the waterways of the northeastern US. It is such a troublesome plant it is illegal to grow in many states!
