On the other hand, some species may have just begun to invade or become abundant and their impacts may not be understood. Licorice plants (Helichrysum petiolare) dominating the hillside behind the Stinson Beach (Marin County, CA) Fire Department is one such example. This is one of just a few known sites (all in northern CA) where this species invades, but in each it has formed dense stands that appear to displace natives.
