Invasive plants may also have negative impacts on native animals. Rice et al. (1997) found that spotted knapweed-dominated areas provided 47% less forage for elk than did areas where the weed was controlled. The Latin name for spotted knapweed is Centaurea maculosa, or C. biebersteinii.
