Some invaders are of the same growth form as native species in the habitats they invade, but become so dominant that they displace many or most native species, altering the composition of the plant community and the native insects and other organisms that depend on them. Leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula) - conspicuous due to the yellow bracts around its flowers and fruits - is shown here invading TNC's Pine Butte Swamp Preserve on the eastern front of the Rockies in Montana.
