Don't Move Firewood Costumes

Overview

Origin

The emerald ash borer and Asian longhorned beetle costumes are provided to educational events and partners through the Don’t Move Firewood campaign’s costume loan program. Learn more at www.DontMoveFirewood.org. To ask about booking a costume, email the name of your organization, date of your event, and your contact information to info@dontmovefirewood.org

Description

These invasive insect costumes are built in a modular fashion, to allow the top part to loosely fit over different types of clothing and many sizes and heights of people. Outdoor summer events require the wearer to supply their own matching lightweight teeshirt and shorts, while cooler weather allows for some of the more fun color coordinated tops and body suits that Don’t Move Firewood provides for a complete look.

Distribution

The emerald ash borer and Asian longhorned beetle costumes are lent to dozens of events each year, including science museum festivals, urban forestry meetings, state fairs, ball games, maple sugaring celebrations, continuing education programs, fall festivals, parades, and more. The costumes are lent to any not-for-profit use where at least 100 people are expected to benefit from the increased attention and excitement (and fun photo opportunities) of having a person in costume.
