Appearance
Oplopanax horridus is a perennial shrub that can grow from 3 to 12 ft.(0.9-3.7 m) tall.
Foliage
Leaves are alternate, simple, deciduous, 5 to 15 in. (12.7-38.1 cm) in diameter, palmate, bright green above and pale green below, and covered with fine sharp spines.
Flowers
Flowers are small, white, and found on upright terminal, cone shaped clusters that are 3 to 6 in. (7.6-15.2 cm) long.
Fruit
Fruits are drupes that are bright red in color, flattened, ellipsoidal, and are found on upright terminal clusters.
Ecological Threat
Oplopanax horridus can be found in moist habitats such as forests and along stream banks. It is native to the U.S. in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Michigan.
