1. Third workshop materials coming your way!
From: Barry Rice (bamrice(at)ucdavis.edu)
The powerpoints, photos, and supporting documents from the Eastern
Invasives Workshop #3 have all been gathered into one CD. Wendy Fulks (aka
Wendo), Jackie Main (aka Jammin) and Company have copied disks and sent
them to the participants of the network meeting. You should be getting
your copies very soon.
The slide show picture of Dave Gumbart rappin' about lessons learned is
worth the price of admission, I think.

2. New Web site for Latin American/Caribbean Fire Network
From: Chris Wilson (christa_wilson(at)tnc.org)
I am pleased to announce the launch of a new Web site for our Latin
American and Caribbean Fire Network:
http://tnc-ecomanagement.org/IntlFire/. This network focuses on
restoration and maintenance of natural fire regimes in fire-adapted and
fire-sensitive ecosystems of the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and
parts of South America.
The goals of the network are to:
(1) educate land managers about the ecological role of fire in tropical
and temperate ecosystems,
(2) help land managers develop comprehensive fire management planning and
implementation skills, and
(3) provide a framework for sharing and disseminating scientific knowledge
and technical information.
Network objectives are accomplished through workshops focused on education
and training, site-based consultations at demonstration sites and other
priority conservation areas, and a mentoring/exchange program that links
site-based practitioners in need of fire management assistance with fire
ecologists and fire management experts. To date, land managers from
Belize, the Bahamas, Honduras, Mexico, Brazil, and the Domincan Republic
have participated in the network.
The Latin American and Caribbean Fire Network is sponsored and funded by
and the USDA Forest Service's International Programs and The Nature
Conservancy's Fire Initiative and Learning Networks Programs.
A Spanish version of the Web site is under development and will be
launched in the coming months.
