1. Saccharum ravennae (New Mexico, USA)
From: Frannie Decker (fdecker(at)nmda-bubba.nmsu.edu)
We have Saccharum ravennae (ravennagrass) growing in the Bitter Lake
National Wildlife Refuge and in surrounding areas. It is confined to the
riparian areas but seems to be spreading rapidly. Does anybody have
information regarding its invasiveness, the threat it poses, or control
information?

2. Economic impacts of invasive aquatics RFP (Nationwide, USA)
From: Barry Rice (bamrice(at)ucdavis.edu)
Jennifer Vollmer (vollmej(at)basf-corp.com) forwarded to me a Request for
Proposals (RFP) to study the economic affects of aquatic invasive species.
The program is through the Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Foundation, and
models that result from this program will aid resource managers in
decision making and defending goals in regard to aquatic plant management
actions. The deadlines for submission are 1 July 2002 and 1 October 2002.
The RFP is posted on the WIST web site at:

A two day primer on weeds will be held 18-19 June 2002 in San Diego.
Topics on the agendum include weed biology and ecology, herbicides, weed
management, laws and regulations, and management specifics for a few
egregious weed species. The class costs $80. To download the registration
