1. English and Algerian ivy control (California)
From: Mike Kelly (mkellysd(at)aol.com)

Can anyone report successful methods of any kind to control either English
ivy (Hedera helix) or Algerian ivy (Hedera canariensis)? We have tried
glyphosate (Roundup) at concentrations of 2-5% with silicone and other
surfactants with little control.

2. Price for Garlon 4 (Utah)
From: Damian Fagan (dfagan(at)tnc.org)

I am wondering if anyone can give me the best cost for Garlon 4 and the
supplier's phone number?

---------------------------------------

3. Mulching with Lonicera maackii (Indiana)
From: Andrew Mertz (amertz(at)indygov.edu)

We were wondering if there is a preferred way to handle the waste from our
25 acre Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) site? In the past we have
stacked it in small piles, mulched it and taken it off site, and mulched
it and left it on-site. We are aware that Amur honeysuckle contains
compounds that inhibit the growth of other plants. We would hate to leave
large amounts of debris or mulch in this area if it could inhibit the
growth of newly planted saplings. Is this a possible problem?

4. New Paspalum notatum Species Management Summary online (Nationwide)

The Wildland Invasive Species Team is proud to unveil a new Element
Stewardship Abstract on Paspalum notatum (Bahia grass):

5. Monsanto patent on glyphosate expiring (Nationwide)
From: Barry Rice (bamrice(at)ucdavis.edu)

In September 2000, Monsanto's patent on glyphosate expired. (Glyphosate is
the active ingredient in Roundup and Rodeo.) Dow AgroSciences and other
companies are planning on entering the glyphosate market with its own
brand of glyphosate-based herbicides.

The price of glyphosate-based herbicides may drop as much as 50%. Remember
that if you buy some of the new formulations, you must be aware of the
attributes of the active ingredient, surfactant, and the "inert"
ingredients.

For more information on the changes in glyphosate marketing, use keywords
such as glyphosate, patent, expire in your favorite search engine. For
