1. Seed-collecting trailer
From: Peter Whan (pwhan(at)bright.net)
I have no knowledge of how well the machine works other than the
owners swear by it, but the Hamilton County Park System in Cincinnati
bought one that was custom made by a company in the midwest (around
$6,000 I think). The number is 513-521-7275, I can't remember the guys
name but they can tell you. Another source is "Restoring Canada's Native
Prairies, a practical manual" by J.P. Morgan, D.R.Collicutt, J.D.
Thompson; available from The Manitoba Naturalist Society, Phone#:
204-943-9029 for around $15 us. It has a number of different machines
some of which can be used with a ATV and looked fairly cheap.

2. Floridian seed-collecting trailer
From: Doria Gordon (dgordon(at)botany.ufl.edu)
In Florida we are using a Woodward Flail-Vac seed stripper (Ag-Renewal,
Weatherford, Oklahoma) that comes in 2 sizes - either mounted on the front
of an ATV or tractor. Height is set with hydraulics. We only use it for
seed collection. If you want more information, contact Greg Seamon:
gseamon_tnc(at)nettally.com.

3. Prairie Habitat's seed-collector trailer
From: David Hanna (dhanna(at)3rivers.net)
We have a seed stripper that we purchased from Prairie Habitats in
Manitoba. Our ATV (Honda 400) pulls it easily, and it can collect a fair
amount and variety of seed. You can get information on it and other
models at www.prairiehabitats.com.

4. More on Prairie Habitat's seed-collectors
From: Garth Fuller (gfuller(at)tnc.org)
The seed stripper from Prairie Habitats is described in Restoration and Mgmt
Notes 12:1 summer 94. I have one of their hand held seed strippers and
have used it with only moderate success.

5. USDA's seed-collectors
From: Maria Trabka (mtrabka(at)tnc.org)
I saw such a beast at the USDA's big flats materials center in corning,
NY. It was trailer with some sort of revolving broom and a catch basket.
One of its advantages is that it didn't destroy or crush plants, making it
possible to repeatedly sweep a field over the seed maturation window. You
could contact the director at big flats for more info: Martin van der
Grinten, RD 1, Box 360A, Route 352, Corning, NY, 14830, 607/562-8404.
