Four-spotted Chaser, Libellula quadrimaculata, a large gold dragonfly with distinct four dark markings on the wings. Flies April to September. Adults feed on mosquitoes, gnats, and midges. Nymphs feed on aquatic insect larvae and tadpoles.Habitat are ponds and slow-moving rivers. State insect of Alaska. Found in North America and Europe. Highly territorial insects. Females lay eggs on water surface.
