Shadow Stretch-spider, Tetragnatha montana with White Featherleg, Platycnemis pennipes. Shadow Stretch-spider, Tetragnatha montana. Long jawed spider that waits for prey in a spot. Name comes from its habit of stretching legs into parallel position on rushes or grass to camouflage itself by its web. Female: 7–13 mm, Male 6-8mm. Active: may-September. 60% prey are mosquitoes. Spider injects a toxin into prey to liquidize internal organs and wraps it in silk parcel hat it stores close to the web.
