This remarkable, longnecked, slender bug bears no close resemblance superficially to other members of the chinch bug family. Adults are approximately 3/8 inch (9 mm) long. The head and pronotum are dark brown to black and the wings light brown or reddish-brown. It is fairly common under boards, stones, or trash on the ground where it feeds primarily upon other insects. It is an occasional pest of strawberries. Both nymphs and adults hibernate.
