Description:
Codling Moth damage to apple; The codling moth is grayish, with a brown mottled area at the base of its front wings, 3 or more golden brown wavy bands cross near the middle, and there is a large, iridescent, oval brown spot near the tip.  Hind wings are brown.  Wing expanse is 1/2 to 3/4 inch (12 to 19 mm). Moths are attracted to ultraviolet light.  There are commercial pheromones available that are used to monitor the moth flights.  Larvae are pinkish white and are the chief cause of wormy apples.  There are 2 to 3 generations each year in Kansas.  This insect winters as larvae under bark or in apple storage cellars in a cocoon.
