Description:
Giant puffballs are easily recognized by their size and shape. Fresh specimens are typically brilliant white in color, but turn brown as they mature. They range in size from tennis ball size to soccer ball size and sometimes much larger. Giant puffballs are saprobes usually growing on the soil surface. Brown mature specimen in image.
