manganese deficiency
Host: flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum (flue-cured type)
L.)
Descriptor: Damage
Description: Manganese (Mn) deficiency occurs primarily on overlimed soils (pH above 6.2) which are also low in available Mn. A deficiency of Mn causes flecking on the lower leaves similar to that of weather fleck. In contrast to weather fleck, Mn deficient plants are stunted, and affected leaves are more chlorotic and eventually take on a "ragged" appearance as the flecks coalesce and dead tissue falls out. Subsequent growth usually appears normal, but flecking may advance to middle and occasionally to upper leaves if root development is restricted.
