1. Winter-branchlet in early spring with vegetative buds (k) and crowded clusters of flowers drooping on long pedicels (a - h). - 2. Branchlet with developed leafy shoots and ripe fruits (a - c). Seed is in the middle of the winged nut (samara) oval in shape, ciliate along the margin and typically with incurved extention (»horns«) at the noched apex. - 3. Seedling with cotyledons (c) and first ordinary leaves - yet opposite in position. - 4. Winter-branchlet with vegetative (k) and fertile (b) buds. After Hempel & Wilhelm, 1889.
