Description: Adult females ranging from 300-540 kg and adult males from 400-920 kg. Bison is the symbol of nature conservation in Poland. Early in the 1900s, the last European bison in the wild was killed by a poacher. A captive breeding program was instituted with zoo animals. In the 1950s, the first animals were rereleased into the wild. Poland.
